According to CNN, information about the locations of the recent attacks has not been given yet. Already, the US Embassy in Baghdad, the Consulate General in Arbil and the Baghdad Diplomatic Support Center have been targeted several times. The US State Department has announced a reward of US $ 3 million for anyone providing information about the attacks.
In fact, a US State Department spokesperson said that amid the ongoing tension between Washington and Tehran, militants linked to Iran carried out two attacks overnight on American diplomats and bases in Iraq. In a statement, the State Department strongly condemned these terrorist attacks on US diplomatic missions and urged the Government of Iraq to immediately stop such attacks.
According to CNN report, the spokesperson said that we have consistently appealed to the Iraqi government to immediately fulfill its responsibility to stop attacks on American targets and to prevent terrorist militants from using Iraqi soil for attacks. The official stressed that if the Iraqi government is unable to fulfill its obligations, the US will not hesitate to protect its personnel and bases.
According to the report, the spokesperson did not give any specific information about the locations of the recent attacks. The US Embassy in Baghdad, the US Consulate in Erbil, and the Baghdad Diplomatic Assistance Center have been repeatedly targeted since the beginning of the US-Israeli war with Iran. Last week, the US State Department announced a reward of up to US $3 million for information related to the attacks on its diplomatic bases in Iraq.
Earlier, according to Al Jazeera report, the Islamic Resistance, an Iran-backed militia organization, had carried out 19 drone and missile strikes targeting US targets in Iraq and the region on April 3. Iran-backed militia is attacking American targets in West Asia amid the ongoing conflict between the two countries. Meanwhile, an Iraqi police source told Al Jazeera that the headquarters of the Iran-backed Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in al-Qaim, western Iraq, was attacked.
There has also been news of air attack on the headquarters of PMF's 34th Brigade in Mosul. Shia military groups Islamic Resistance and PMF have been part of several proxy wars in the region. This incident has occurred amid rising tensions between the US and Iran, where diplomatic efforts are continuing amid sharp rhetoric from both sides.
