Why is the ruling party afraid of the Election Commission? Singhvi raised serious questions about the image of CEC

A press conference was held at the Constitution Club of opposition parties to reject the notices given by Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. During this, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi while addressing the media said that this is a serious matter. Why is the ruling party afraid of the Election Commission? Why does the ruling party try to falsify everything?

He said that the ruling party works to strangle democracy. Why is the government so nervous about the impeachment motion against the CEC? Singhvi said that in the case of Yashwant Verma, the court has given a list of 6 stages. The impeachment motion against the CEC was rejected in the first stage, which is against the basic spirit of the Constitution.

He further said that if the process of impeachment motion is rejected in this way then all these people will be above this process. Although there were many flaws in the SIR process, there were two issues which raise questions on the image of CEC.

Rajya Sabha Chairman had rejected the proposal

On April 6, the Chairman of Rajya Sabha had rejected the impeachment motion against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. To remove the CEC from the post, the opposition parties led by TMC had given notice of impeachment. Using his authority under Section 3 of the judges inquiry act 1968, the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha has refused to accept this motion.

This proposal was presented in the Rajya Sabha on 12 March. It was signed by 63 MPs in Rajya Sabha. At the same time, 130 MPs had signed it in the Lok Sabha. The purpose of this proposal was to remove Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar from the post. According to the rules, to remove a Chief Election Commissioner, signatures of at least 100 Lok Sabha MPs or 50 Rajya Sabha MPs are required.
