Mahatma Jyotirao Phule was a great social reformer, thinker and revolutionary of Maharashtra. He is considered the pioneer of liberation of Shudras and women. She opened India's first girls' school in 1848. Strongly opposed the caste system and established Satyashodhak Samaj. Mahatma Gandhi gave him the title of Mahatma.
