Prime Minister Narendra Modi today reached Prerna Sthal in the Parliament complex to pay floral tributes to Mahatma Jyotiba Phule on his 200th birth anniversary. When Narendra Modi reached the venue, he was greeted by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi, Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, former Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh and others.

Mahatma Jyotirao Phule was a great social reformer, thinker and revolutionary of Maharashtra. He is considered the pioneer of liberation of Shudras and women. She opened India's first girls' school in 1848. Strongly opposed the caste system and established Satyashodhak Samaj. Mahatma Gandhi gave him the title of Mahatma.
