Islamic Center of India Chairman Maulana Khalid Rashid has appealed to the Muslim community regarding the census. He said that they should enter only Islam in the religion column and Urdu in the mother tongue column. He has described it as an important issue related to the correct identity of the community and its future plans.
Maulana Khalid Rashid said in a statement issued on Saturday that census is not just an exercise in statistics but is a process that brings out the real picture of any society. Negligence or ignorance in this can directly affect future policies and plans.
Especially describing the columns related to religion and mother tongue as the most important, he said that I have a clear appeal to the Muslim brothers and sisters that they should fill both these columns with utmost care. Write Islam in the religion column and Urdu in the mother tongue column. This is a matter related to our identity and heritage.
Maulana, instead of calling Urdu just a language, called it a complete culture and cultural heritage. He said that unless correct and accurate data comes out, it will be difficult to make concrete policies for the development of language and community.
Linking it to civic responsibility, he said that only the cooperation of every person will decide how strongly his identity gets registered in the future. Therefore, participating in the census is not only a duty but also a means of securing our future.
