The central government has issued new rules for online gaming, which will come into effect from May 1, 2025. The rules have been notified. According to the new rules, if the link of online gaming originates from China, Pakistan and Turkey, then separate rules of the Government of India will be applicable for it. This means that it may be mandatory for online games related to these countries to register with the government. However, registration is not mandatory for all social games. This has been done so that there is no threat to the country's security and interests.

An official associated with the Ministry of Information Technology said that registration of all social games is being made mandatory but if any social game is related to China, Pakistan and Turkey, then the government can ask it to register itself. This has been done so that there is no threat to the country's security and interests. At present, registration is not necessary for normal social games, but the government will have the right to take action against any suspicious game.

Betting games will be banned

He further said that games involving money transactions will be banned. Registration for e-sports will now be mandatory. However, games involving betting or money will not be able to register themselves as 'e-sports'. According to the new rules, from May 1, all those online games in which money is traded will be banned in India. The government notified online gaming rules on Wednesday.

The law was approved in August 2025

Let us tell you that this law was approved in August 2025 and now its final rules have been issued. These rules will be fully implemented from May 1. Earlier the government believed that there was no need for separate rules for this, but in view of security and regulation, it has now changed its decision. The government says that the apps or websites which do not follow the rules of India, will be blocked by the government. If any user tries to run these banned games through VPN or foreign website, then strict action will be taken against them.
