With the aim of further strengthening defense cooperation between India and Russia, the 5th India-Russia Working Sub-Group Meeting was held in New Delhi from 28 to 29 April 2026. Senior officials of both the countries participated in this important meeting and discussed in detail many important issues related to military supplies.
The meeting was co-chaired by Joint Secretary Dinesh Kumar from the Indian side and Sergei Yashin, Deputy Chief of FSMATC from the Russian side. In this meeting the focus was on military supply and support system.
The talks between the two sides focused on important aspects related to military supplies being provided to the Indian Armed Forces. In this, there was an in-depth discussion especially on issues related to after sales support, price of equipment and defense contracts.
This meeting has taken place at a time when India is emphasizing on further improving the operational preparedness of its military platforms. In such a situation, timely spare parts, maintenance and technical support becomes very important.
At the end of the meeting both the countries signed the protocol. Through this protocol, India and Russia reiterated their commitment to continue and advance their strong cooperation in the defense sector.
There has been a decades-old defense cooperation between India and Russia. The Indian Army, Air Force and Navy include a large number of weapons and systems of Russian origin. In such a situation, such meetings are considered very important for their maintenance and upgrade. This meeting held in New Delhi is an important step towards further strengthening India-Russia defense relations. This will not only improve the military supply system, but will also deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries.
