The experience of traveling in Indian Railways may completely change in the coming times. Now there are preparations to provide business class facilities like flights to passengers in trains also. Students of National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, have designed a special premium executive pod concept, in which special attention has been paid to privacy, comfort and modern technology. This initiative is being considered an important step towards making railway travel more luxurious and convenient.
This concept has been specially designed keeping high-speed trains in mind. In this, passengers will get a kind of private cabin (private pod), where they will be able to sit comfortably as well as lie down. The seats will be based on ergonomic design, which will reduce fatigue even during long journeys.
This premium pod also includes features like individual lighting, ample storage and a small workspace. Apart from this, passengers will get to experience better connectivity and an interior equipped with smart technology, which makes it quite different from the existing train coaches. This project has been developed under the Railway Design Center (RDC) established in collaboration with Indian Railways and NID. Its objective is to improve the experience of passengers and prepare train designs as per future needs.
However, at present this is only a concept design and no official decision has been taken regarding its implementation. Railway officials are currently studying this model and its feasibility is being considered. If this scheme is implemented, the premium travel segment in Indian Railways may get a new direction. This can become an attractive option especially for business travelers and high-end passengers, which can completely change the experience of train travel.
