Samajwadi Party National President Akhilesh Yadav is reaching Kolkata on Wednesday immediately after the West Bengal Assembly election results. There he will meet Trinamool Congress supremo and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. This will be the first visit of a major opposition leader to Bengal after the election results. Mamata Banerjee herself confirmed this meeting while holding a press conference in Kolkata on Tuesday. He said that Akhilesh requested me if he can come today itself, but I told him to come tomorrow, so, he will come tomorrow. Everyone will come one by one.
Mamta clearly indicated that her aim is to further strengthen the INDIA alliance. During the West Bengal elections, instead of entering the field, Akhilesh Yadav remained active in supporting Mamata Banerjee through social media. After the results came out, Akhilesh made several posts on social media X on Monday. In the first post, he wrote a couplet calling BJP's victory a fraud. Every fraudulent victory has a duration, this is the foundation of truth. In the second post, Akhilesh, referring to the 2022 Uttar Pradesh elections and Farrukhabad Lok Sabha elections, alleged that central forces were misused in the counting of votes.
He also shared the old video of Mamta Banerjee. Taking a jibe at women's reservation in the third post, Akhilesh said that when the results are being taken arbitrarily, then the Chief Minister can also be made as per his wish. He made the slip comment in a sarcastic manner. In January 2025, Akhilesh Yadav had gone to Kolkata with his wife Dimple Yadav and then he had announced his electoral support to Mamata Banerjee.
This meeting between Akhilesh Yadav and Mamata Banerjee is not just a matter of courtesy. Political analysts are considering this as an important step towards strengthening the INDIA alliance in view of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Senior journalist Rajendra Kumar says that in this meeting, Bengal election results, alleged misuse of central agencies and upcoming strategy are likely to be discussed in detail. Akhilesh Yadav knows very well how challenging it is to face BJP alone. After Mamata Banerjee contested the elections alone and saw the results, the SP President has understood the importance of alliance better.
In such a situation, his visit is also an attempt to give a message to the workers and supporters that the opposition is united and fighting the BJP. This meeting is considered important in maintaining and strengthening the unity of INDIA alliance in the 2027 elections. Political experts also believe that Akhilesh Yadav has close relations with Mamata Banerjee and Stalin. Akhilesh has been out of power for the last 9 years. In such a situation, Mamta has helped Akhilesh on many occasions.
It is believed that Akhilesh Yadav has also been getting ideological support from Stalin and Mamata. Not only this, Mamta Banerjee also came to Lucknow from Kolkata on 7 February 2022 to help Akhilesh Yadav. And also held a public meeting for SP. Akhilesh Yadav had also given a Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh to TMC at the behest of Mamata Banerjee. Lalitesh Tripathi left Congress and joined TMC to contest Lok Sabha elections from Bhadohi.
Now that Mamata is out of power, Akhilesh Yadav will meet her and give assurance of maintaining his relations. Political experts also believe that Akhilesh Yadav is also going to maintain relationships like Mamata Banerjee. At a time when Mamata needs to stand for India Bloc, Akhilesh will be with her.
