Lucknow. In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Punjab Kings performed brilliantly and kept themselves firmly in the race for the playoffs by defeating Lucknow Super Giants by seven wickets. In the match played at Ekana Stadium, Punjab registered an important victory by easily achieving the target of 197 runs on the basis of strong batting.
Batting first, Lucknow Super Giants scored 196 runs losing six wickets in 20 overs. Josh Inglis played the biggest innings for the team and scored 72 runs and Ayush Badoni made an important contribution by batting fast in the middle order. Abdul Samad played an important role in taking the team to a competitive score by scoring fast runs in the last overs.
However, Lucknow’s start was not as expected and wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Punjab bowlers maintained control over the run rate in the middle overs. Yuzvendra Chahal and Marco Jansson stopped the opposition team from moving towards a big score by taking two wickets each.
Chasing the target of 197 runs, the Punjab team batted with confidence. Prabhsimran Singh batted aggressively and gave a fast start to the team and scored a half-century. After this, captain Shreyas Iyer took charge and took the game forward with responsibility.
Iyer hit excellent shots during his innings and led the team to victory by remaining unbeaten till the end. He completed his first IPL century by hitting a six, which became one of the most memorable innings of his T20 career. His captaincy innings proved to be very important for Punjab.
With this victory, Punjab Kings’ points have increased and the team’s chances of reaching the playoffs have strengthened. Lucknow Super Giants have suffered a big blow due to this defeat and their path has now become more difficult than before.
