Bayern Munich’s honorary president Uli Hoeness has taken a sharp dig at Barcelona after reports emerged linking Harry Kane with a move to the Spanish giants. Speaking after the England captain powered the Bavarians to DFB-Pokal triumph, Hoeness brushed off the speculation by ridiculing the Catalan club’s ongoing financial issues.

Hoeness praises Kane as Bayern’s most successful acquisition

Harry Kane’s arrival at the Allianz Arena has completely transformed Bayern Munich, and Uli Hoeness has made no attempt to hide just how highly he rates the England skipper. Following Bayern’s dominant 3-0 win in the DFB-Pokal final, where Kane produced a brilliant hat-trick to end the club’s six-year wait for the domestic cup, Hoeness offered the forward the highest possible tribute.

Speaking to Das Erste during the post-match celebrations, Hoeness was emphatic in his assessment of Kane’s contribution. “Harry Kane is the best transfer we’ve ever made,” he stated proudly.

Hoeness mocks Barcelona’s transfer ambitions

Even with Kane’s massive success in the Bundesliga, rumours have inevitably linked him to other European powerhouses, including Barcelona. But Hoeness wasted no time shutting down any suggestion that the Blaugrana could tempt the English striker away from Bavaria, pointing instead to their well-known financial difficulties.

When asked about Barcelona’s supposed interest, Hoeness responded with characteristic bluntness, taking a swipe at their spending capacity. Asked if Kane would remain at Bayern for the long haul, he quipped: “Yes, and Barcelona have no money anyway.”

Bayern’s unwavering approach to player sales

The veteran club figure went on to reaffirm Bayern’s status as one of the few global clubs that never need to sell their top stars for financial reasons. While Barcelona continue to wrestle with La Liga’s strict salary cap and their financial restructuring, Bayern remain one of the most financially secure and well-run football institutions in the world.

Hoeness used the occasion to reiterate Bayern’s long-standing philosophy about player departures, stressing that they operate from a position of strength rather than necessity. “FC Bayern is a buying club, not a selling club,” he emphasised, making it clear that no offers would be entertained for the player who is now the centrepiece of their attack.

Kane’s future firmly rooted in Munich

As for Kane himself, he appears entirely content in Munich, having finally lifted the kind of silverware that had eluded him during his years in north London. The England captain has frequently spoken of his satisfaction with life in Germany, and reports suggest that Bayern’s management are already preparing a contract extension beyond 2027. With the backing of the board and a goal-scoring record that rivals the club’s greatest legends, the idea of Kane trading the Allianz Arena for Camp Nou remains nothing more than a fantasy.
