Manchester United manager Michael Carrick is reportedly keen on strengthening his backroom staff by appointing a specialist set-piece coach, with Tottenham Hotspur assistant coach Andreas Georgson emerging as a prime target, as per The Athletic.

Although Carrick’s coaching lineup has already been confirmed, the Manchester United boss is still looking to expand his team and may attempt to bring Georgson back to Old Trafford from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Georgson previously worked as a set-piece coach for the Red Devils in July 2024, where his contributions were highly appreciated within the club.

Afterward, Georgson joined Thomas Frank at the North London side, and despite Frank’s dismissal, the Swedish coach was retained by Tottenham due to his impressive work.

He has since been part of the coaching setup under new Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi, playing a role in helping Tottenham secure their Premier League status with a 1-0 victory over Everton earlier today.

However, with De Zerbi expected to make potential adjustments to his coaching team, Georgson’s future at the club remains uncertain.

The Swedish coach also serves as part of the Sweden national team’s backroom staff, working under Graham Potter as an assistant with a focus on set-pieces.

Georgson’s first Premier League role came in 2019 when he joined Brentford as head of set-pieces and individual development. His data-driven approach was instrumental in improving the Bees’ effectiveness from dead-ball situations.

In August 2020, he moved to Arsenal to work under Mikel Arteta before departing in 2021. The following year, between July and September 2022, he served as interim manager of Malmö before taking over as their sporting director, a position he held until his move to Southampton in August 2023.

With extensive experience across various clubs and roles, Georgson is considered by Carrick to be a valuable potential addition to United’s coaching team.

As Manchester United aim to mount a serious Premier League title challenge next season, the inclusion of a high-calibre set-piece expert could prove vital, given the increasing importance of dead-ball situations in determining key matches in recent years.
