The bodies of 6 Naga people who were kidnapped on 13th of last month have been recovered after 28 days. This incident stunned everyone. There is silence everywhere, but behind this silence there is a deep anger. Thousands of people have come out on the streets in Imphal West. This is not just a protest. This scream is of those mothers who have lost their children. This is the anger of those youth whose future is burning in the fire of violence. In protest against this pain and anger, the United Naga Council has announced a 24-hour bandh.

He was allegedly abducted on May 13 from Leilon Waifei village in Manipur. The bodies of all six Naga men were brought to JNIMS amid tight security on Thursday morning. Police say that the bodies were recovered after a search of about 24 hours.

Huge outrage outside the hospital, police fired tear gas shells

When these bodies were brought to JNIMS mortuary. There was a huge crowd of people outside. There was tremendous anger among the families of the victims and the Liangmai Naga community. Police used tear gas to disperse the crowd. Relatives are still waiting for formal identification of the bodies and are questioning community leaders as to why it took almost a month to bring the bodies to Imphal. The question is legitimate. In this entire matter, Liangmai Naga Council President Timothy Vijunamei said while talking to the media that we have just found the bodies of six people. We found these bodies dead. This has deeply shocked us and we are completely heartbroken.

'It took 28 days to bring back the dead bodies, we are disappointed with the government's attitude'

Vijunamei said the bodies have been brought to the mortuary, but families and community leaders have not yet identified them. We have not yet found out who is who. We are waiting to identify the faces and ascertain whether they are indeed our six missing people. Wijunamey further said that after identification and verification of the bodies, relatives and community leaders will collectively decide whether to formally receive the bodies or not.

He said that it took them 28 days to bring the bodies here. We are extremely disappointed with the attitude of the government. Manipur Police issued a statement saying, about 450 personnel of the state police, CRPF and Assam Rifles conducted the search operation with the help of sniffer dogs and forensic expert teams. After a 24-hour search, bodies of six people were recovered this afternoon.

It is believed that the deceased were among the people taken hostage from Leilon Waifei on 13 May 2026. Police said that necessary legal formalities are being completed and the matter is under investigation. The CMs of Nagaland and Meghalaya strongly condemned this incident.
