India-Slovakia relations get a new dimension, 11 agreements and 3 big announcements during Prime Minister Modi’s visit

During Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Slovakia on 14-15 June 2026, both the countries signed 11 agreements and made 3 important announcements, taking their bilateral relations to a new height. The most important decision was to raise the relations between the two countries to the level of comprehensive partnership.

In a joint press statement in Bratislava after talks between the two countries, PM Modi thanked FICO for his warm welcome and described him as a close friend of India.

PM Modi Said, he is an experienced leader and a true friend of India. Their friendship and strong commitment have played an important role in taking India-Slovakia relations to new heights. I am very happy to have the opportunity to meet him today and witness a historic moment in our relations.

Agreed to further improve mutual relations

Emphasizing the importance of this visit, PM Modi announced to further improve mutual relations. He said, this is the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Slovakia. I am glad that on this historic occasion, we have decided to elevate our relationship to a Comprehensive Partnership. It is a symbol of our shared trust, shared priorities and shared future.

Main agreements and decisions:

  1. Agreement signed between India and Slovakia to promote labor migration.
  2. Letter of Intent (LoI) was signed to increase cooperation in defense sector.
  3. It was agreed to strengthen partnership in the field of digital technology.
  4. MoU was signed to increase cooperation in higher education and research.
  5. An agreement was signed on audio-visual creation for cooperation in film, TV and other creative fields.
  6. It was decided to establish the first ICCR Chair on Artificial Intelligence at the Technical University of Kosice, Slovakia.
  7. It was agreed to increase cooperation in the field of quantum communication and critical infrastructure protection.
  8. An agreement was signed between the National Institute of Naturopathy, Pune, Ministry of AYUSH and Health Spa Piestany, Slovakia.
  9. Agreement signed between IIT Delhi and Slovak Technical University on student exchange, scholarship and joint research programmes.
  10. It was agreed to promote tourism cooperation between the tour operator organizations of the two countries.
  11. An agreement for scientific cooperation was signed between the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) and the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAS).

Three big announcements:

  1. India and Slovakia announced to upgrade their relations to Comprehensive Partnership.
  2. Joint Working Group on Counter Terrorism will be established to increase cooperation in combating terrorism.
  3. It was decided to launch a Consular Dialogue for cooperation in civil services and visa-related matters.
