Amidst the rebellion from TMC, Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) has got a new president. Jyotiprakash Chatterjee has been made the new Chief of NCPI. However, before this it was being said that Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar herself is the president of his party, but she rejected this. Jyotiprakash was appointed the new national president of the party.

Kakoli, who is leading the rebel MPs of TMC, met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and informed about the merger of two-thirds of TMC MPs with NCPI. According to sources, the defectors will listen to the TMC MPs as well as the MPs led by Mamata Banerjee. Only after this will they decide to recognize the breakaway group.

The Lok Sabha Speaker's decision on giving separate recognition to the rebel faction of TMC will be taken before the monsoon session of Parliament. It will start in the third week of July. The Speaker will take the written opinion of the Union Law Ministry on whether the rebel group should be recognized or not. This is because if someone challenges this decision in the court, then the decision of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha should be proved legally correct.

On Tuesday, Kakoli said that currently there are 20 MPs in this rebel group, but this number may increase to 22 in the coming days. NCPI has agreed to include all the rebel MPs of TMC. Kakoli also said that his rebel MP group has nothing to do with the rebel MLAs of the West Bengal Assembly.

He said that Assembly Speaker Rathindra Bose has given recognition to that group. If the Lok Sabha Speaker recognizes the group of these rebel MPs as NCPI party, then the equation of NDA will change. NCPI will become the second largest party in the NDA alliance. NCPI will overtake TDP with 16 MPs and JDU with 12 MPs.

After Jyotiprakash Chatterjee was appointed the new national president of the party, Shantanu De, who described himself as the National Organization General Secretary of NCPI, said in a conversation with news agency PTI that he had no information about it. Dey said that I do not know who Jyotiprakash Chatterjee is. I have no idea what is happening with NCPI.

Dan further said that this is the party for which I worked so hard. I am happy that big leaders are joining us, but till now they have not contacted us. I am disappointed that we are being kept in the dark. NCPI was formed in 2023. Its head office is in Howrah, Bengal. This party also contested assembly elections on some seats in Tripura.
