After the recent peace agreement between America and Iran, technical level talks were to be held between the two countries, but the visit of US Vice President JD Vance to Switzerland has been postponed for the time being. The White House has said that this decision has been taken due to some logistical problems related to preparations for the travel and talks.
In fact, a meeting was proposed on Friday in Lucerne city of Switzerland to discuss the technical aspects of the 14-point MoU between America and Iran. In this meeting, representatives of both the countries had to discuss the implementation of the terms of the agreement and the further process. However, JD Vance had already indicated that his Switzerland tour has not been finalized yet. At the same time, Iranian negotiators had also said that the date of talks has not been finalized yet.
White House spokesperson said on Thursday that Vice President Vance had also told in his press conference that the plan for the upcoming technical talks has not been decided yet. He said that the American delegation is ready to leave immediately if needed, but the arrangements for such talks between America and Iran have always been complex and uncertain.
The spokesperson clearly said that at present JD Vance is not going to Switzerland on Thursday night. He said that as soon as the new date of talks or the next step is decided, information about it will be given.
On Thursday, US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pejeshkian signed a peace agreement. Its purpose is to end the conflict that has been going on for several months. As soon as the agreement came into force, the ceasefire was extended and both countries were given time to reach a final agreement on all technical and political issues related to the agreement within 60 days.
During the press conference at the White House, JD Vance said that America is fully committed to implementing the first phase of this peace agreement. He also said that the 60-day negotiation period stipulated in the agreement has officially started from Thursday.
