Under the special campaign being run against drug trafficking in Maharashtra, 1,142 cases related to NDPS have been registered from January to April 2026. In these cases, 1,626 accused were arrested and drugs worth approximately Rs 254.53 crore were seized.
3,199 cases related to drug abuse have also been registered during the same period. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis gave this information in reply to a question in the Assembly. He said that action is being taken on a large scale against drugs in the state and a special campaign is being run for this.
The drug network is being traced and action is being taken against those involved in drug trafficking and reaching their roots. The Chief Minister said that under this action, drug smuggler Salim Dola, who was hiding abroad, has been brought to India. He said that the network of about 4,000 kg MD drugs spread across the country by Salim Dola has been busted and a large quantity of drugs have been seized.
Fadnavis said that to make the action against drugs more effective, anti-narcotics squads are being established in every police station of the state. Efforts are being made to appoint competent and experienced officers in these special divisions.
He told that these officers will be given special facilities and incentives. Besides, officers doing excellent work in this department will also be considered for next appointment as per their choice.
