Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar made an official visit to South Korea (Republic of Korea) on 24-25 June 2026. This visit took place on the invitation of South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun. Bilateral talks were held between the two Foreign Ministers in Seoul, in which all major aspects of India-South Korea relations were reviewed. The two leaders also had detailed discussions on regional and global issues. The progress of the decisions taken during the visit of South Korean President Lee Jae-myung to India in April 2026 was reviewed.
Here political dialogue, trade and investment, financial cooperation, shipbuilding, defense and security, emerging technologies, startups, culture, education and increasing people-to-people contacts were discussed. It was agreed to increase cooperation in multilateral fora and further strengthen the strategic partnership in the coming years.

Both Foreign Ministers agreed to give new impetus to the India-South Korea Special Strategic Partnership and to take forward the decisions of the recent high-level meetings. Jaishankar also met South Korea's National Security Director Wei Sung-lak and discussed regional and global security. On June 25, Jaishankar delivered the keynote address at the inaugural session of the Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity held in Jeju. Foreign Minister Jaishankar invited his counterpart Cho Hyun to visit India for the next meeting of the India-South Korea Joint Commission.
The Foreign Minister said, “India and the Republic of Korea should cooperate more closely.” “We have capabilities in areas such as shipbuilding, digital, health, infrastructure or defence, which are yet to be fully exploited.” The minister said influential countries should build “new understanding and closer ties” to stabilize the global order and resolve issues and problems through specific agenda-based cooperation. He said, "The Global South should be provided with more potential and opportunities. This will also create new factors of global development."
