Baba Saheb’s ashes will not be removed, Mahasabha puts an end to speculations

Amid speculations about shifting the urn of Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar's ashes kept in the Ambedkar Mahasabha in Lucknow, the institute on Monday said that there is no proposal to take the urn to another place. Ambedkar Mahasabha General Secretary Amarnath Prajapati said in a statement issued here, there is no case of shifting the urn established by Mai Saheb Dr. Savita Ambedkar in Ambedkar Mahasabha.

The statement said, Baba Saheb's ashes established in Dr. Ambedkar Mahasabha will remain intact in Ambedkar Mahasabha. Meanwhile, the state culture department also denied the shifting of Ambedkar's ashes in a post on 'X'.

No plan to move the urn

The post quoted the Additional Chief Secretary of the department as saying that the Culture Department and the Uttar Pradesh Government have no plans to shift the sacred urn of Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. It will remain safe and intact at its established place in Dr. Ambedkar Mahasabha.

Main center of faith of Bahujan community

Ambedkar's ashes and statue were installed in 1991 in the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Mahasabha complex located on Vidhansabha Road in the capital Lucknow. This place is a major and historical center of faith of the Bahujan community.

New monument ready

The state government had laid the foundation stone of 'Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial and Cultural Centre' in front of Aishbagh Eidgah in Lucknow in 2021 and there is speculation that once the new memorial is ready, the urn from the Mahasabha will be shifted to the new cultural centre.
