Two big decisions were taken in the Modi cabinet on Wednesday. The first decision is regarding Delhi. Whereas in the second project, Bundelkhand of UP has got a big gift. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the first project is 6-lane Dwarka Tunnel. Its cost will be Rs 6970 crore. It will prove to be very beneficial for Delhi. This 8 kilometer long tunnel will fulfill the old demand. This will become a completely new corridor. All work should be done without damaging the 'ridge'. The tunnel should be constructed beneath it in such a way that it does not suffer any damage.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the second project connects the Bundelkhand region of UP. It covers the stretch between Kanpur and Bhopal. The portion that has been approved today is 242 kilometers long from Kanpur to Kabrai. This route goes from Kanpur to Hamirpur, then to Kabrai, Mahoba and further to Bhopal. This alignment is a main route and will connect many parts of the Bundelkhand region.
He said that this will ease the natural flow of traffic from Kanpur towards Bhopal. It will be an access-controlled highway like an expressway. Its construction will be completed in 2.5 years and will cover Kanpur, Hamirpur and Mahoba. It will be developed under the BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) toll model. It will have two parts, greenfield and brownfield.
The Union Minister said that the first part includes a greenfield, 4-lane access-controlled highway, which will have structures designed for 6 lanes. He said that the Prime Minister has instructed everyone to adopt the thinking for infrastructure projects that planning should be done keeping 2047 in mind. Therefore, the foundation of the infrastructure being built today should be laid keeping future expansion in mind.
He said that many new defense activities are coming up in that area, the Defense Corridor is also located there. Due to this, many new projects are coming in defense and manufacturing sector. This project will promote economic development in Kanpur, Ghatampur, Hamirpur and Kabrai. The current journey of 3.5 hours from Kanpur to Kabrai will be reduced to only 1.5 hours.
