On the instructions of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the government has taken an important decision regarding the reorganization of Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR), which has been vacant for almost 3 years. Through the notification issued by the Women and Child Development Department, while reorganizing DCPCR, a Chairman and 4 members have been appointed in the Commission. The Chief Minister said that protection of the rights of children and their welfare is the top priority of the Delhi Government.
These appointments have been made in exercise of the powers obtained under the Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005, Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights Rules, 2008 and the related notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. According to the notification, Om Prakash Vyas has been appointed Chairman of Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights. Along with this, Rahul Gautam, Kundan Kansakar, Swati Gupta and Monica Sharma have been appointed members of the commission.
All appointments will be effective from the date when the persons concerned assume charge of their posts. The tenure of each appointee will be 3 years. However, if the prescribed age limit is met before then the tenure will end on the same day. The maximum age for the Chairman of the Commission has been fixed at 65 years and for the members at 60 years.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that every child deserves a safe, respectable and opportunity-filled childhood. Delhi Government gives top priority to protecting the rights of children. The strengthening and active Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights is an important step in this direction.
He said that we are confident that the new leadership of the Commission will ensure effective protection of children's rights by working with full sensitivity, transparency and responsibility. Our government will remain committed to protecting the interests of every child and their all-round development.
