Have you ever eaten oxtail soup, one of the most popular Indonesian cuisines? Indonesians call it "Sop Buntut". By the way, do you know the story behind the name oxtail soup? 'Sop' is soup in English and 'buntut' is a tail in English. Originally, the tail cooked in soup was just the tail of an ox, but it may now be the tail of any cattle. In Indonesia, oxtails are simply beef tails; there is no special breed of cow utilized, and they produce the most mouth-watering soup. Believe it or not, what was once considered a throwaway piece of meat is now priced between Rp100.000 to Rp200.000 per kilos. Wow, it's expensive, isn't it?
The Indonesian oxtail soup is different. It is cooked with fried or grilled oxtail slices and veggies in a rich yet clear beef broth. Boiled potatoes, carrots, tomatoes, leeks, celery, fried shallots, and dried black mushrooms are among the ingredients.
