Nepal Flood: A new challenge has arisen before the police amid the search for hundreds of missing people after the sudden flood in Nepal. The safes of at least 20 banks have been washed away in the flood waters. The police are now busy searching and securing these vaults, so that the cash and valuables contained in them do not reach the wrong hands.

Maintaining law and order in affected areas is also a challenge

Officials said on Monday that the police is also focused on maintaining law and order along with relief and search operations in the flood-affected areas. According to DIG Abi Narayan Kafle, the biggest priority of the police at this time is to find the missing people, but it is also necessary to secure the safes of the banks that were washed away.

Many safes were buried in silt, some were washed away in water

DIG Kafle said that banks have been badly damaged in many areas including Rasuwa, Dhading, Chitwan. Many safes of these banks containing huge amounts of cash and valuables like gold were washed away in the floods or buried under debris and silt. Police and other personnel are trying to locate and secure such safes.

Accusations of stealing cash by breaking safes came to light

According to officials, some such incidents have also come to light after the flood, in which people broke bank safes that were washed away with the water and stole the cash kept in them. Due to this, the police is also alert about the security arrangements in the affected areas.

29 arrested for theft of 92 lakh Nepali rupees

Dhading district police have arrested 29 people for allegedly stealing Nepali rupees 92 lakh from a bank safe that was washed away in Upper Rasuwa area. Police are now also searching for other safes that went missing in the flood.

Bank safe secured after eight hours of effort

DIG Abi Narayan Kafle said that on Sunday evening the policemen were successful in securing a safe of the Dhunge branch of the Agricultural Development Bank in Trishuli. It took about eight hours for the police team to secure it.

Large stock of cash and gold in the safe

According to officials, the secured safe contained around 1.5 crore Nepalese rupees in cash and other valuables including gold worth around 50 crore Nepalese rupees. Apart from this, another safe of Agricultural Development Bank located in Nuwakot has also been secured by the police.
