The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) decided to update fees for all categories for the first time in two years, which would result in increased toll rates for users of the highway as of October 1. This is the result of the Suraksha Group of Mumbai acquiring Jaypee Infratech Ltd., the long-time manager of the expressway. The most recent toll rise took place in September 2022.

It is anticipated that both regular commuters and visitors visiting Agra or Mathura would be impacted by the increased tariffs. The new structure would result in a 20 per cent rise of the toll for motorbikes, from Rs 1.25 to Rs 1.50 per km. According to a TOI report, charges for private automobiles and other light four-wheelers would rise by 13.5%, from Rs 2.60 to Rs 2.95 per km.

The toll for light commercial vehicles, which includes minibuses and compact trucks, would rise by 10.8% to Rs 4.60 from Rs 4.15. The toll for buses and large vehicles is going to rise by 10.7%, from Rs 8.45 to Rs 9.35. The highest tolls will be applied to multi-axle trucks and big vehicles; the new charges are Rs 14.25 and Rs 18.35, respectively.

The toll revision is a component of the resolution plan Suraksha provided when they acquired Jaypee, according to YEIDA CEO Arun Vir Singh. The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) and the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) approved this plan, which contains provisions for yearly toll increases.

The YEIDA board meeting on January 29 addressed a proposal to raise the fees, although the decision to amend them had been delayed for more than a year. Nevertheless, at that point, no agreement was achieved. A report detailing income collection and traffic estimates had also been sought by the Authority from Jaypee in view of the impending international airport in Jewar. Even after these conversations, toll prices haven’t altered as of yet.

When the motorway opened in 2012, the Uttar Pradesh government first gave its approval for yearly toll increases. The state government gave YEIDA the authority to decide on toll changes in January 2015.

According to officials, the new charges should increase daily toll receipts to almost Rs 1 crore.
