News Update September 27, 2024 11:24 PM

The election of one member of the Standing Committee of Delhi Municipal Corporation will be held today at 1 pm at the corporation headquarters. Corporation Commissioner Ashwini Kumar has issued orders for this. Apart from this, Commissioner Jitendra Yadav was given the responsibility of presiding over the meeting of the House for the elections.

In fact, Delhi LG VK Saxena, in an order late on Thursday night, had asked the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to hold elections on a vacant seat on the Standing Committee of the Corporation on Friday.

This is happening for the first time in the history of MCD that Aam Aadmi Party and Congress are not taking part in this election. This election is being conducted without AAP and Congress councillors.

Swati Maliwal attacked Arvind Kejriwal and said – so much arrogance is not right…

Manish Sisodia said, “BJP is trying to repeat the same trick which it did in the Chandigarh mayor's election, where it was caught red-handed.” He also said that as per the rules, only the mayor, deputy mayor can vote. Or only a senior councilor can preside over the meeting of the MCD House.

Mayor had imposed stay, but LG reversed the decision

Shaili Oberoi said that she has already announced the next House meeting and the election of the sixth member of the Standing Committee on October 5 and she is committed to a free and fair election. He described the order as “unconstitutional, 0 and illegal” and insisted that the elections would be held only on October 5. Later LG V.K. Reversing this decision, Saxena had directed MCD Commissioner Ashwini Kumar to hold elections on Friday at 1 pm.

Manish Sisodia announced: AAP will not take part in the MCD Standing Committee elections today.

Arvind Kejriwal said

Former CM Arvind Kejriwal said on MCD Standing Committee elections, “I am surprised. The MCD House can be convened only by the Mayor. The Lieutenant Governor cannot call the House. Tomorrow they will say that the Home Secretary will call the Parliament session. There is a flaw in their intentions.” On the other hand, AAP MLA Dilip Pandey also raised the issue of election of MCD Standing Committee member in Delhi Assembly. He said, “LG does not respect the Constitution. “An attempt is being made to forcibly conduct elections in MCD, which is murder of democracy and the Constitution.”
