In this meeting of the GST Council, popcorn has been kept in different categories according to its quality and flavor, popcorn made with salt and spices, which is not pre-packed and which is not labeled, will attract 5 percent GST. If packaged and labeled, the GST on it will increase to 12 percent and on popcorn made from caramel, 18 percent GST will have to be paid. It has been categorized as 'Chinese Confectionery'. People like it more.
Another such decision has been taken in the GST Council meeting which will give a blow to the pocket, the government has now imposed 18 percent GST on the sale of old cars. In this meeting, the decision to reduce tax on premium of life insurance and health insurance policies was also discussed but it was postponed, it was decided in the meeting that some more technical aspects need to be addressed in this regard, hence it will be considered further.
