Today marks the 92nd birth anniversary of Dhirubhai Ambani the founder of Reliance Industries. Dhirajlal Hirachand Ambani also known as Dhirubhai Ambani grew up in financially struggling conditions. To make ends meet he started selling fruits and fritters but the business did not yield the expected profits and after a few months he had to close it down.  In 1948 Dhirubhai reached Aden Yemen with the help of his elder brother Ramnik Lal. He started doing a job in a company on Rs 300 as remuneration. He was working at a petrol pump. The company promoted him as a manager after recognising his labour and dedication. After spending six years in Yemen Dhirbhai returned to India in 1954. He moved to Mumbai in 1955 with Rs 500 to start his career in business.  After reaching Mumbai Dhirubhai set out to understand the Indian market. He concluded that polyester was in high demand domestically while Indian spices were also sought after in foreign countries. In 1958 he decided to start his own business and rented a home. With the help of his cousin Champak Lal Dimani he established Reliance Commercial Corporation. Through this company he exported ginger turmeric cardamom and textiles to various countries. From there Dhirubhais career took off and he witnessed remarkable success in business. He started numerous ventures and became the wealthiest businessman in the country by 2000. When he founded Reliance Commercial Corporation in 1958 his office was just 350 square feet furnished with a table a chair and two associates In 1998 ‘Asia Week’ magazine listed him among the top 50 most influential people. In 2001 Reliance became the first Indian private company to be included in the Forbes Global 500. Dhirubhai’s wife Kokila Ben was also a strong supporter of his endeavors. Dhirubhai had four children: Mukesh Ambani Anil Ambani Deepti and Nina. Dhirubhai Ambani suffered a second heart attack on June 4 2002 and died on July 22 2002 at the age of 69
