has found himself in hot water with tennis icon , following a fresh dispute mere days after his contentious remarks about the Africa Cup of Nations. The former Liverpool star stirred up debate when he seemed to downplay the significance of the tournament, drawing criticism from Rio Ferdinand and prompting a retort aimed at his old Premier League adversary.

Carragher had implied that AFCON lacked the prestige to bolster 's Ballon d'Or campaign.

Now, Carragher's opinions on have drawn Becker's ire, as the three-time Wimbledon victor took exception to his analysis. The ex-Champions League winner doubted Bayern's prospects against Bundesliga foes Bayer Leverkusen in their upcoming clash.

The German outfits are set to lock horns in the last-16 next month, and Carragher believes that if they fail to advance, 's position in the Allianz Arena dugout could be called into question.

"Bayern have not convinced me at all yet," Carragher said. "Now they are playing against Leverkusen, who dominated Bayern in the Bundesliga recently. It's a 50-50 tie. In the end, I'm predicting Leverkusen [to advance].

"If Kompany does not win, there will be many question marks about his appointment, because the league is expected and the Champions League is the icing on the cake of a season. They have to reach at least the semi-finals."

Becker did not take kindly to such commentary. "There haven't been any questions regarding the appointment of Kompany!" he exclaimed on X.

"In fact FCBayern just said domestic title most important trophy this year and are happy with the work of Vincent Kompany ! Jamie is NOT well informed at all."

The former tennis star's remark elicited a response from Carragher himself, who offered an apology of sorts on Twitter. "Apologies @TheBorisBecker it won't happen again!" he quipped, complete with a shrug and laughing emoji.

Further stoking the social media banter, ex-Manchester United defender Ferdinand took a cheeky swipe at Carragher following Becker's comment. The pundit replied to Becker's judgement on Carragher to write: "Boris... he's having a bad couple week. Let him off."
