Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): As the deadline for starting commercial operations of the Metro train draws nearer, incomplete work on the project is causing significant concern for officials of the Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MRCL).
With only a few months left, officials are working around the clock, with day and night shifts to ensure timely completion of the project.
Sources from the Metro Rail Corporation said that civil works and interior designing are still underway. The targeted completion date has been set for June, to ensure the Metro can begin its commercial operation by July 25.
Currently, Metro train testing is being conducted between Subash Nagar depot and Rani Kamlapati Metro Station. There are plans to extend the testing route up to AIIMS. Given the urgency, work is being fast-tracked, with engineers working late hours to meet the deadline.
An official from the Metro Train Corporation said that all necessary works must be completed to facilitate testing of Metro trains from Subash Nagar depot to AIIMS. Metro testing is expected to take place in March.
Prior to that, a team from the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO) will conduct an inspection of the Metro train rolling stock.Bhopal currently has five Metro train sets, with a total of 27 sets sanctioned for the city.
