From playing supporting roles to portraying grandmothers Nirmalammas journey is a memorable one. She gained immense popularity and love by performing alongside numerous heroes during her era. She established herself as an undisputed actress throughout the course of a career that included over a thousand films. In 1943 at the age of sixteen Nirmalamma played the role of a maid in the film Garuda Garvabhangam. Years later in 1961 she portrayed Nirmalamma Rukmini in Krishnaprema. Then with good opportunities flowing in Nirmalamma made such a remarkable impact on the audience that it became hard for viewers to even picture someone else in the roles she had done. Apart from Telugu Nirmalamma also acted in Tamil Malayalam Kannada and Hindi languages. Her major breakthrough came when she acted in Thalapathi helmed by Mani Ratnam and featuring Rajinikanth. She then married her production manager. Though the couple did not have any kids they adopted a girl named Kavitha. Later Kavitha got married and had a son named Vijay Madala. Vijay Nirmalammas grandson also followed in his grandmothers footsteps. He made his debut with Padamata Sandhyaragam directed by Jandhyala which also starred Vijayashanti as the female lead.
