Over Rs 3 lakh crore is made during the 45-day Maha Kumbh, which strengthens the state’s economy

February 27, New Delhi As Uttar Pradesh moves closer to its goal of becoming a $1 trillion economy, the Maha Kumbh Mela-2025 in Prayagraj, which ended on Maha Shivratri, most certainly contributed more than Rs 3 lakh crore to the state’s GDP.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath posted on social media on the last day of the Maha Kumbh, which began on January 13, to reveal that more than 66.21 crore worshippers have taken part in the festival’s holy bath at the meeting point of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers in Prayagraj.

Industry executives believe that the great celebration was one of the nation’s largest economic events, generating approximately Rs 3 lakh crore (about $360 billion) in sales of products and services.

Prior to the start of the Maha Kumbh, preliminary estimates predicted that 40 crore people would arrive and that commercial transactions would total around Rs 2 lakh crore, according to Praveen Khandelwal, BJP MP and secretary general of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT).

Over 66 crore people attended the greatest spiritual gathering in the world, nevertheless, thanks to the extraordinary reaction from both domestic and international audiences. This resulted in a huge commercial revenue of over Rs 3 lakh crore.

In the March quarter, which was typically a seasonally poor travel time, airfares also held steady. The Maha Kumbh flights to Prayagraj were the main source of the increase.

Large-scale economic activity was seen in a number of commercial sectors, including as the food and beverage industry, transportation and logistics, religious clothing, puja, handicrafts, textiles and clothing, and other consumer items.

A notable economic boom boosted local economies not just in Prayagraj but also in cities and towns within a 100–150 km radius.

To improve Prayagraj’s infrastructure, the Uttar Pradesh government invested more than Rs 7,500 crore.

The construction of 14 new flyovers, six underpasses, more than 200 wider highways, new corridors, larger railway stations, and a contemporary airport terminal cost Rs 7,500 crore, according to the state government.

Furthermore, Rs 1,500 crore was set aside expressly for the preparations of the Kumbh Mela.
