The Aadhaar card is one of the most important identity cards in India. The verification number provided in your Aadhaar card is essential for various purposes, including admissions to educational institutions, filling out examination forms and opening bank accounts.
Any incorrect information on your Aadhaar card can lead to complications. Fortunately, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) allows you to update your details.
However, it’s important to note that there are limits on how often you can change certain information on your Aadhaar card. Here’s what you need to know:
You can update your registered mobile number as many times as necessary since UIDAI has no restrictions on this change, recognising that users frequently change their phone numbers.
You are allowed to change your name on your Aadhaar card only twice in your lifetime. This is typically for correcting spelling errors. To make a name change, you’ll need to provide proof, such as a PAN card, passport, or marriage certificate.
You can update your date of birth only once during your lifetime. For this change, you’ll need to submit a birth certificate or an educational certificate, as UIDAI has strict regulations regarding date of birth updates.
There is no limit to how many times you can change your address on your Aadhaar card. If you move or your permanent address changes, you can update it as often as needed. However, you must provide valid proof of residence, such as an electricity bill, rental agreement, or bank statement.
UIDAI allows updates to your Aadhaar card both online and offline.
