New Delhi: Pakistan and Bangladesh have concluded their 2025 Champions Trophy campaigns without a victory after their final Group A match was called off due to rain at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Thursday. As a result of the washout both teams will finish with one point each. Both Bangladesh and Pakistan the tournament hosts and defending champions had already been eliminated from the competition after India and New Zealand secured their semi-final spots making this match a meaningless one. This rain-affected game marks the second match to be abandoned in Rawalpindi following the South Africa-Australia Group B clash. Persistent drizzle had been falling in Rawalpindi for the previous 24 hours leading to concerns that Thursday’s match might face a similar fate. An official inspection was set for 2:30 pm (IST) but the rain intensified preventing any inspection and resulting in a delayed toss. At 4:00 pm (IST) the rain finally ended any hopes of play and the match was officially abandoned without a ball being bowled with both teams sharing a point. Pakistan and Bangladesh had entered Thursday’s match hoping to finish the 2025 Champions Trophy on a high note. Both teams had already suffered defeats to New Zealand and India where their performances across all areas fell short although Bangladesh’s bowling attack was in better shape than Pakistan’s. This early exit from an ICC tournament marks the third consecutive time Pakistan has been eliminated prematurely following the 2023 Mens ODI World Cup in India and the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies. For the 2025 Champions Trophy one match remains in Group A with India and New Zealand set to face off in a match to determine the group leaders. India and New Zealand will play their final group-stage game at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.
