The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has yet to begin, and it's already seeing one of its games get rescheduled. The concern revolves around Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) home match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 6 at Eden Gardens, which is facing 'security issues.'

The match is expected to be rescheduled, as city police have not approved security clearance due to Ram Navami celebrations. Over 20,000 processions will be held across West Bengal on Ram Navami, increasing security demands across the state, BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari previously stated.

KKR vs LSG to be rescheduled?

In addition to the political leader, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Snehasish Ganguly also stated that security clearance has not been granted. It is stated that after two rounds of discussions with city police on Tuesday, it was confirmed that they "have not given the go-ahead" for the match.

"They have categorically stated that they won’t be able to provide adequate security. Without police protection, accommodating a 65,000-strong crowd becomes impossible," Snehasish said, according to PTI.

"We have informed the BCCI, and there is still time to make a final decision. Even last year, an IPL match scheduled on Ram Navami had to be rescheduled."

Last season, a similar situation arose when the IPL fixture between KKR and Rajasthan Royals (RR) was rescheduled due to security concerns on Ram Navami.

IPL 2025 opening ceremony

The 18th edition of the IPL is set to kick off at Eden Gardens on March 22, with defending champions KKR facing off against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

The match will be preceded by a dazzling 35-minute opening ceremony, likely featuring performances by renowned singer Shreya Ghoshal, actresses Shraddha Kapoor and Disha Patani, and actor Varun Dhawan. Known for his soulful voice, Arijit Singh is also set to make a comeback to the IPL, while Punjabi singer Karan Aujla is expected to be part of the event as well.

It's a marquee match with high demand for tickets. Eden Gardens will be hosting an opening ceremony after a long time," said CAB president Snehasish Ganguly, while keeping details about the event under wraps.
