Can Google CEO Sundar Pichai own a team in the Indian Premier League (IPL)? This question arises when he commented on a social media post by one of the users related to IPL. Sundar Pichai has interest in cricket and the IPL. Pichai and US-based Indian tech executives owns a stake in cricket that controls 49% of the London Spirit franchise which is a team in England’s The Hundred cricket league.
This group includes Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen. The remaining 51% of London Spirit is owned by the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) as the leagues business model.
Sundar Pichai’s Comment On IPL
Sundar Pichai reacted to a Twitter post questioning the exclusion of cricketer Washington Sundar from the Gujarat Titans playing XI during a match against Punjab Kings. A user commented on how Washington Sundar made India’s best 15 but being left out of IPL teams to which Pichai humorously replied I have been wondering this too.
Though heplied jokingly it shows his interest in cricket and IPL matches. Both Sundar Pichai and Washington Sundar come from Tamil Nadu.
User named as Pushkar tweeted ‘How Sundar sneaks into the best 15 of India but doesnt get a place in any IPL XI when 10 teams exist is a mystery’
Google CEO Sundar Pichai replied on it ‘I have been wondering this too:)’
Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Industries owns the Mumbai Indians franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He also has a stake in the IPLs broadcast rights through Viacom18. If Sundar Pichai ever thinks of buying any IPL team he can create a major challenge for India’s richest person Mukesh Ambani.
