Parthiv Patel on Increased IPL Powerplay Score:
A lot of runs have been scored in the matches played so far in IPL 2025. Most of the teams have shown aggressive games in the powerplay overs and are raining runs within the first 6 overs. Now Gujarat Titans assistant coach and former India cricketer Parthiv Patel has given the end of the 'feeling of fear' within the players as the reason for the big score in the powerplay.
Parthiv Patel said that when he used to play, the average score in the powerplay overs in the IPL used to be 45 runs. Now many teams are scoring 90-100 runs in Powerplay easily. Patel said that the score of the powerplay also depends on the condition of the pitch.
Parthiv Patel told the media that during his days, the average score in Powerplay used to be 45 runs, followed by 50, 50 and then 60 runs. He said that when playing in Chennai, the score of 150 used to be sufficient, so people expect very little that a team would have scored 70-80 runs in Powerplay itself.
Parthiv Patel said that batsmen have benefited due to side-arm throw specialists. He said, “There is no longer a sense of fear among the batsmen. The batsmen are apparently playing fearlessly, so they are able to put shots without hesitation and are also practicing the same thing.” Patel revealed that throw specialists have been kept for batting practice and all the IPL teams are doing the same. For this reason, players of each team are easily able to put boundary.
It was also difficult to score 50 runs in the first 6 overs of Powerplay in IPL. Therefore, the fact is very shocking that in IPL history so far, more than 100 runs have been scored in the first 6 overs of Powerplay four times. SRH has a record of highest score in Powerplay, which scored 125 runs in the first 6 overs against Delhi Capitals in the year 2024.
