Sunrisers, Hyderabad After Hyderabad’s devastating seven-wicket defeat in the IPL 2025 match at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here on Sunday, skipper Pat Cummins claimed that the Gujarat Titans’ pacers were difficult to bat against.
Hyderabad was limited to 152/8 in 20 overs after being sent in to bat first. Prasidh Krishna and Rashid Khan both claimed two wickets, while Mohammed Siraj had his career-best IPL statistics of 4-17.
Hyderabad reached the 150-run milestone thanks to Cummins’ nine-ball 22 not out, which included three fours and a six, and Nitish Kumar Reddy’s top-scoring 31 runs.
“The Hyderabad wicket is a little tricky, but I was a little thin. You are in the game if you get a couple early wickets. They batted pretty well, even though it didn’t spin much and there was some dew present. During the post-match presentation, Cummins said, “It was difficult to play against their pace bowling today.”
With 20 balls remaining, Shubman Gill’s undefeated 61, Washing Sundar’s 49, and Sherfane Rutherford’s explosive 35 not out led them to a resounding victory.
Sundar, who made his Gujarat Titans debut, was happy with the chance the team had given him and was content with his batting performance.
“You should point out all the adjectives. The captain wanted to see my team win the game, so he urged me to bat as deep as I could. In recent years, Hyderabad has seen a trend where the wicket improves somewhat, making it simpler to chase 160–170. It was helpful to me that I knew about it. We lost a few wickets in the early overs, so the coach asked me to come in at four. It was a rare chance for me, and I enjoyed playing in the middle,” he remarked after the game.
