New Delhi: In a shocking repeat of a 2022 incident, Air India finds itself embroiled in another controversy as a male passenger allegedly urinated on a senior executive of a private company during an international flight from Delhi to Bangkok (AI 2336). The incident occurred in business class as the flight was preparing to land in Bangkok on April 9.
Air India has confirmed the incident, stating that the cabin crew was informed about the unruly passenger’s behavior and followed standard protocol. The airline revealed that the victim was offered assistance to file a formal complaint with authorities in Bangkok, but the passenger declined.
In a statement, an Air India spokesperson said,
“Air India confirms that the crew of flight AI 2336 from Delhi to Bangkok was informed of an unruly passenger on April 9. All due procedures were followed and the matter has been reported to relevant authorities.”
The passenger responsible for the act apologized to the victim, according to sources familiar with the matter.
Permanent Committee to Review the CaseAir India has announced that the matter will be assessed by a permanent independent committee to determine what action should be taken against the accused. The airline also emphasized that it would follow DGCA-mandated SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) in such cases.
The airline stated:
Not the First Incident for Air India“Apart from warning the unruly passenger, our crew offered support to the affected passenger to file a complaint in Bangkok. Further actions will be determined after a thorough review by the independent committee.”
This is not the first time such an embarrassing episode has occurred aboard an Air India flight. In November 2022, a man named Shankar Mishra allegedly urinated on an elderly female co-passenger during a New York to Delhi flight. Mishra, reportedly intoxicated after consuming alcohol four times during the flight, was arrested in Bengaluru on January 6 and later released on bail by January 31.
