This Morning suffered the loss of a cherished team member in 2023 when it was revealed that 19-year-old Mathew Lock had tragically passed away. He was a familiar face on the show, where he would share his passion for vacuum cleaners and mechanics.

On Thursday's (April 17) episode, hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary paid tribute to Matthew by speaking with his parents. Dermot recalled: "Matthew first appeared on the show back in 2020 and charmed the pants off us with his enthusiasm and lovely attitude, so we often had him review everything from vacuum cleaners to phone cases."

Alison continued: "However, just over a year ago, Matthew tragically took his own life. His parents, Richard and Christine, have since been campaigning to raise awareness of ADHD and the increased suicide risk that comes with that.", reports Wales Online.

Matthew's parents joined the show, and Alison shared how much the This Morning team adored their son. Dermot praised Matthew's passion and enthusiasm, saying: "He had funny bones, he was kind and he was caring. We didn't get to meet him an awful lot, we only met him a few times but he was a breath of fresh air when he came into the studio."

Matthew's mum, Christine, told the hosts that her son loved appearing on This Morning to discuss his passion, but sadly, in September 2023, Matthew was found dead at his home.

An inquest into his death revealed prior concerns about his drinking and ketamine use, which he reportedly refused help for, according to Express.

Toxicology reports confirmed that Matty had consumed both substances before his untimely death, with police ruling out any third-party involvement.

This Morning honoured the young man's memory on Instagram, stating: "Everyone at This Morning is shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Matty Lock, aged just 19."

They continued to celebrate his life, saying, "He was a delightful young man, a joy to work with and his passion for vacuum cleaners and general mechanics was infectious."

The post also reflected on the pride his family felt during their visit to the studio, where Matty had showcased his ability to turn a childhood hobby into a career.

Tributes poured in from ITV colleagues, including Craig Doyle, Rylan Clark, and Holly Willoughby, all mourning the loss of the vibrant 19 year old.
