American workers alleged that TCS discriminated against them over age race and national origin. The US’s EEOC is looking into this matter. Professionals over 40 who are a large part of layoffs accused that their Indian coworkers were not much affected in this process.
According to a Bloomberg report these allegations have raised concerns about TCS’s treatment with American employees in the US. However TCS has denied the accusations and called them ‘misleading’. A company spokesperson stated that TCS gives equal opportunity to employers in the US.
EEOC Investigation
The complaints were made in 2023 on which EEOC began a probe and has not disclosed details. Reports show that the investigation began during President Biden’s term and continues under President Trump’s tenure.
In April 2024 US Representative Seth Moulton (D-Mass.) urged the EEOC to broaden the investigation. It cited concerns that TCS may be engaging in a pattern of discrimination against American workers. Moulton also raised questions about the misuse of US work visa programs and said that TCS’s actions may have constituted a pattern-or-practice of discrimination impacting Americans.
In the past also TCS faced allegations of discrimination. In the UK three former employees accused the company of age and nationality-based discrimination however TCS had denied those claims.
In 2020 the EEOC investigated Cognizant Technology Solutions and found that the company had discriminated against over 2000 non-Indian employees between 2013 and 2022.
