For the 31st time—and maybe the 32nd as well—one of the best mountain guides will try to beat his own record by climbing the highest peak in the world.
In order to guide a team of climbers who will attempt to reach the 8849-meter (29,032-foot) summit during the spring climbing season, Kami Rita, 55, took a plane from Kathmandu to Mount Everest on Sunday.
With thirty successful ascents of Mount Everest, Rita holds the record. He made two ascents of the mountain in May of last year.
“Getting my customer to the top of the mountain is my top priority. After that, I’ll choose whether I want to ascend the summit more than once this season. “It is contingent upon the weather and mountain conditions,” he said.
