IPL 2025 Updated Points Table Following KKR vs. GT: The defending champion Kolkata Knight Riders lost by 39 runs in IPL 2025 match 39 at the Eden Gardens here on Monday, thanks to captain Shubman Gill’s graceful 90 off 55 balls on a difficult Eden Gardens pitch and Gujarat Titans’ disciplined bowling.

Following KKR’s decision to bowl on tacky track, GT’s total of 198 for 3 was set up by Gill’s innings, which featured 10 fours and three sixes, as well as Sai Sudharsan’s 36-ball 52, his fifth fifty in six games and the first player this season to surpass 400 runs to reclaim the Orange Cap.

The amount was more than plenty since the GT bowlers, headed magnificently by Rashid Khan and Prasidh Krishna, both of whom had identical numbers of 2/25, held KKR to 159 for 8. Following their disastrous performance of 95 all out when chasing 112 in the previous game, the reigning champions suffered yet another setback as their batting seemed hopelessly out of depth as they lost for the third time in four home games and fifth overall from eight games.

With their sixth victory in eight games, GT solidified their lead of 12 points, two points ahead of the Delhi Capitals, at the top of the IPL rankings. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was dismissed for 1 by Mohammed Siraj in the first over, causing KKR’s chase to wobble early.

Rashid, who regained his form after a lacklustre start to the season, dismissed Sunil Narine following his short 17-run appearance.

The crafty Afghan spinner, who had come under fire for his previous exploits, returned with 2/25 after a tight period in which he expertly took advantage of the circumstances and claimed the valuable scalp of Andre Russell (21; 15b). A return to form was indicated by his control and variations on the slow Eden pitch. In his two-over period, he gave up only five runs, demonstrating his skill.

When it was all but over for KKR at 119 for 7 in 16.3 overs, in-form seamer Prasidh also displayed his wizardry at the back end by dismissing Moeen Ali (0) and Ramandeep Singh (1) in consecutive deliveries.

The middle overs of KKR’s innings stalled, with Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer finding it difficult to surge against GT’s spinners during a 36-ball stretch in which they were unable to score a boundary.

The screws were further tightened by Sai Kishore’s economical 1/19 in three overs, which resulted in Iyer leaving for 14 from 19 balls and Rahane being stumped for 50 off Washington Sundar’s bowling (1/36 in three overs). Russell and Rinku Singh were crucial to KKR’s aspirations as they needed 108 runs from the last 45 balls. However, GT’s methodical approach was unable to overcome the growing needed run rate.

When KKR decided to bowl earlier, their bowlers were hit hard right away as Sudharsan (53 off 38) and Gill (90 off 55) formed a 114-run opening partnership. As the first player to reach 400 runs this season, Sudharsan’s steady performance won him the Orange Cap.

GT scored a par score in these difficult circumstances, while Jos Buttler, who had come in with steam after an earlier undefeated 97, was held to an undefeated 41 off 23 balls after failing to locate the boundary ropes as anticipated.
