FC Goa defeats Gokulam Kerala FC handily to move to the Kalinga Super Cup 2025 quarterfinals

India’s New Delhi According to the ISL official website, FC Goa, an Indian Super League (ISL) club, moved to the Kalinga Super Cup 2025 quarterfinals on Monday with a decisive 3-0 win against Gokulam Kerala FC at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.

Iker Guarrotxena, a Spanish midfielder, scored a stunning hat-trick to help the Gaurs move to the next round.

After a brilliant run by Dejan Drazic, who raced forward from the halfway line and was pulled down within the Gokulam box, the first goal was scored in the 22nd minute.

To put his side ahead, Guarrotxena stepped up and calmly converted from the spot, hammering the ball down the centre.

The Gaurs extended their lead thirteen minutes later. After receiving the ball in space and rushing forward on an overlapping run along the left wing, Aakash Sangwan sent in a precise cross into the box. Guarrotxena volleyed it past the diving custodian after perfectly timing his run.

In the 71st minute, the Spaniard completed his hat-trick. This time, Jay Gupta found Udanta Singh on the right side of the box with a low, crisp cross.

Unselfishly, the winger squared it to Guarrotxena, who slotted it in from close range without error. Guarrotxena presently ranks third in FC Goa’s history in terms of goals scored, having scored 23 goals in 45 games.

Goalie Hrithik Tiwari and the defence, which was commanded by captain Odei Onaindia and Sandesh Jhingan, were on guard at the opposite end. Tiwari maintained his eighth clean sheet of the season with a few crucial stops in the closing minutes.

With the victory, FC Goa advances to the Kalinga Super Cup quarterfinals. After overcoming the round of 16 obstacle, FC Goa and Punjab FC will now play each other in the quarterfinals on Sunday.
