After making a strong comeback to professional cricket in England, Cameron Green, a batter for New Delhi Australia and a contender for the ICC World Test Championship Final, has received plaudits from his coach.

After recovering from a more than six-month injury layoff, Green played for Gloucestershire, an England County team, in their four-day match against Kent in Canterbury. He made an instant impression by blasting a century in Gloucestershire’s first innings.

In an attempt to return to international cricket, the 25-year-old blasted 12 boundaries in a 188-ball 122 against South Africa at Lord’s starting on June 11.

However, the Australian was removed for only three in Gloucestershire’s second innings, unable to support his knock of 112.

Mark Alleyne, Green’s County coach and a former England international, spoke about how Green has impacted his team since coming to England and thinks the tall all-rounder is already having a big impact.

“Of course we like his (Green’s) runs in the middle, but being an overseas (player) and coming into a club is much more than just performances in the middle,” Alleyne said on the team’s social media accounts after Gloucestershire’s tie with Kent.

“His practice was excellent before that, and he is a very kind boy who speaks clearly about the game.

“Already without the 100 he had started to make an impact on the group so that has really consolidated the start to his Gloucestershire career and he scored such an important 100 at a tricky time for us,” he said.

Green is focused on strengthening his foundation of fitness over the next month with Gloucestershire and maximising his time in the middle to rediscover his best batting form, even if he hopes to secure a spot in Australia’s squad for the World Test Championship Final.

“It’s been eight long months on the sideline so to get back out here is very special and it is always a good way to start your tenure,” Green said.

Green’s next Gloucestershire matchup is against Leicestershire at the County Ground in Bristol. The four-day game starts on Friday.
