The reigning champs kicked off their playoff journey with a win—but not without giving fans a bit of a heart attack.

The Boston Celtics started strong in Game 1 of their first-round playoff matchup against the Orlando Magic on Sunday. Things were neck and neck in the first half, but Boston shifted gears after halftime and pulled away to clinch a solid 103-86 victory. That puts them up 1-0 in the series.

On paper, it looked like a comfortable home win. But if you were watching the game at TD Garden, there was a tense moment that had everyone holding their breath. In the fourth quarter, star player Jayson Tatum went up for a tough finish at the rim. He got fouled in mid-air, and the way he came down didn’t look good—he tried to catch himself with his hands and ended up landing awkwardly.

Tatum stayed on the floor for a couple of minutes, clearly in pain and clutching his right wrist. While the refs reviewed the play (and eventually called a flagrant foul on Kentavious Caldwell-Pope), the entire arena went quiet. And when Tatum missed both free throws that followed, fans started to really worry.

But just a few plays later, he bounced back—literally. Tatum hit a smooth three-pointer from the top of the key, and you could almost hear the entire crowd exhale at once. After the game, he downplayed the injury.

“I just landed on it,” he explained. “It hurt for a bit, was throbbing, but then it kinda just faded.”

Thankfully, it looks like it was just a scare, and Tatum should be good to go for the rest of the series. He wrapped up Game 1 with a solid stat line: 17 points and 14 rebounds, even with the scare and facing a tough Orlando defense.

Looking ahead, fans can expect Tatum to turn it up as the series goes on. While the Celtics are favorites to beat the Magic in this round, they’ll need Tatum firing on all cylinders if they want to go deep and repeat as NBA champions. His health? Absolutely crucial.
