Kolkata Knight Riders succumbed to another hopeful defeat, this time at the hands of Gujarat Titans, extending their losing streak to five. The Titans strolled through their IPL 2025 campaign thus far, again demonstrating this by comfortably defeating KKR by 39 runs at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. KKR’s deflated performance allowed them to reach an effortless 159 after 20 overs, meanwhile KKR’s titans scored a low-standard 199 before claiming victory.

Let’s review the five elements of the match that changed it’s course.

Shubman Gill’s Captains Knock

In what is likely one of the finest innings of the tournament, GT’S captain Shubman Gill played an absolute gem of an innings, scoring 90 off 55 balls making 10 boundaries and 3 sixes. He received praise for his discipline after KKR sent him to open the innings. Gill reached his third fifty of the season in just 34 balls and looked set for a century before being caught by Rinku Singh off Vaibhav Arora.

Sai Sudharsan’s Consistency Continues

The most consistent player of IPL 2025 is Mr. Sudharsan. Sudharsan once again put his shoudlers’ to the test, claiming his fifth half-century of the tournament. Together they guided KKR to ultimate victory as they claimed their first five-wicket defeat against Delhi. His 36-ball 52 included 6 fours and a six, showcasing his dominant form.

Jos Buttler’s Scintillating Performance

Jos Buttler’s form did not seem to let up, as he scored a quick 41 not out off 23 balls. He hit 8 boundaries in total and kept a fiery strike rate. At Eden Gardens, Buttler seems to have the clock’s hand to turn in his favor. He has scored 421 runs in 8 matches at the venue, averaging 70.16 with a strike rate of 167.06, which includes a century and two fifties.

Ajinkya Rahane’s Determined Stand Alone

In a tough chase, KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane stood his ground scoring a 36 ball 50. He hit 5 boundaries which included 4 fours and a six. However, getting out was a pivotal point in this game, with him getting stumped off Washington Sundar after attempting a charge down the pitch. Despite AArahane’s hard work, it wasn’t enough to carry them over the line.

Prasidh Krishna and Rashid Khan’s Brilliant Bowling

Prasidh Krishna and Rashid Khan set the tone for GT’s bowling unit which was sharp. Both finished with identical figures of 4-0-25-2. Their spells helped break partnerships and keep control over the KKR chase. These were also the first sets of back to back wickets for KKR this season.
