Here’s is the list of biggest comeback victories after falling behind in UEFA Champions League knockout first leg.

Over the years, UEFA Champions League have seen several second leg matches in the knockout phase where teams have overturned huge first leg deficits to win the tie and eventually make their way to the next round.

With quarterfinal second leg going to the second leg, we look at some of those epic matches.

Here’s are the biggest comeback victories after falling behind in UCL knockout first leg:

2003/04, Quarter Final – Real Madrid 4-2 AS Monaco in First Leg

AS Monaco 3-1 Real Madrid (Agg 5-5, Monaco went through due to away goals)

AS Monaco humbled the galacticos in the second leg of the UCL quarter finals scoring three goals after going down by a goal from Raul Gonzalez. A brace from Ludovic Giuly and a goal by Fernando Morientes turned the game and the tie in it’s favour helping Monaco to go through

2003/04, Final Finals – AC Milan 4-1 Deported the Quote in Fird Firm

Deportivo La Coruna 4-0 AC Milan (adj 5-4)

After being out played in the first leg against the reigning champions in Milan, Deportivo wiped out AC Milan’s lead by the end of the first half of second leg. Goals from Walter Pandiani, Juan Carlos Valerón, Albert Luque and Fran ensured that the Spanish side went through.

2016/17, Round of 16 – Manchester City 5-3 Monaco in First Leg

Monaco 3-1 Manchester City (Agg 6-6, Monaco won due to away goals rule)

After a high scoring game in Manchester, Pep and his men were pretty confident that his team would go through. However, the the young Ligue 1 side came out victorious scoring three goals guaranteeing them a spot in the quarters and continuing their underdog run.

2017/18, Quarter Final – FC Barcelona 4-1 AS Roma in First Leg

AS Roma 3-0 FC Barcelona (Agg 4-4, AS Roma won due to away goals rule)

Two own goals had put Roma on the back foot and Luis Suárez’s late fourth seemed to have quelled the hope given to the Italian side by Edin Dzeko in the first leg. However, a goal by Dzeko in the fifth minute of the second leg seemed to have bring back hopes and rally on a comeback. Two second half goals from Daniele de Rossi and Kostas Manolas sealed Roma’s place in the semifinal of the Champions League.

2018/19, Semi Final – FC Barcelona 3-0 Liverpool FC in First Leg

Liverpool FC 4-0 FC Barcelona (AGG 4-3)

After a Messi masterclass in the first leg and no Mohamed Salah for the second leg, the Catalan giants looked well in control to qualify for the final but Liverpool showed their grit and determination scoring four goals courtesy a brace from Divok Origi and Georginio Wijnaldum completed a comback which seemed impossible at one point.

2016/17, Round of 16 – Paris Saint-German 4-0 FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona 6-1 Paris Saint-German(Agg 6-5)

In the first leg against PSG, Barcelona looked absolutely clueless conceding four goals. Barcelona had a mountain to climb to and if it was any team, it was Luis Enrique’s men who had the capability to turn this tie around.

Within just 50 minutes, FCB scored three goals which made the players and entire Camp Nou believe that they could do the impossible. However, Edinson Cavani put a dagger in the Barcelona fans heart. But the game was far from over, a goal from Neymar in the 88th minute and two goals from Neymar and Sergi Roberto in injury time, respectively swung the tie in Barcelona’s favour.
