1,517 minor irrigation projects have been administratively approved for execution in the fiscal year 2024–2025 under the “Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana”. These projects are being carried out under the Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali Abhiyan and are under the supervision of the Minor Water Resources Department. They are a part of the government’s Seven Nischay-02 plan.
These projects, which have a budget of Rs 233.48 crore, are intended to systematically provide irrigation infrastructure across 1,87,115.22 hectares. With 765 projects completed to far, 1,11,654 hectares are now covered by irrigation.
The projects mostly include building and developing conventional water bodies such ponds and tanks (more than five acres), check dams and weirs, and ahar-pain (more than one acre). The districts of South Bihar, especially the plateau areas, are home to more than 80% of these projects.
With 391 authorised projects, Jamui district has the most, followed by Gaya (266), Banka (242), and Aurangabad (173). Nawada (53), Bhagalpur (72), and Kaimur (66) are other noteworthy districts. There are fewer approved projects in Arwal and Chhapra (4 each) and Siwan and Buxar (1 each). Lakhisarai and Madhubani have 37 and 31 projects, respectively, while Patna and Sheikhpura have each gotten 30 projects.
