In a strong move to recover pending electricity dues, the Electricity Department in Mainpuri has launched a major crackdown against consumers with outstanding bills exceeding ₹20,000. Under the directive of Dakshinchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (DVVNL), the department is preparing to disconnect power connections and remove electricity meters from defaulters’ premises.
According to Superintending Engineer Ravi Pratap, the department has been instructed by the DVVNL Managing Director to take immediate action against habitual defaulters. These individuals have ignored repeated notices and are showing no intent to clear their dues despite regular power consumption.
At present, over one lakh consumers in the district owe ₹50,000 or more in electricity dues. This has prompted the department to initiate a targeted disconnection drive before the summer power demand peaks further.
The electricity department is offering a final warning to all such consumers. If payments are not made within the stipulated deadline, their power meters will be removed and connections will be permanently cut off.
To ensure efficient execution, disconnection teams are being constituted at the local distribution block level. These teams will work under the direction of Executive Engineers and carry out meter disconnections area-wise.
Strict action will also be taken against contract workers and billing agents in case of negligence or collaboration in electricity theft. Any instance of power usage from previously disconnected meters will result in the termination of contract workers' services.
In particular, table billing agents and store operators found to be complicit in helping defaulters evade bills will face suspension or dismissal from service.
The department has also released data to highlight the gravity of the issue:
Distribution Section I: 1,784 consumers owe between ₹10,000 to ₹50,000.
Distribution Section II: 40,281 defaulters listed.
Distribution Section III: 39,139 consumers with outstanding dues.
With rising temperatures and increased power demand, the department aims to ensure smooth electricity supply to responsible consumers by cracking down on chronic defaulters.
This decisive action sends a strong message to defaulters who have long neglected their responsibilities. Consumers are being urged to clear their pending dues immediately to avoid disconnection and legal consequences.
The department has also made payment facilities more accessible through online platforms and local billing centers to encourage timely settlements.
