Paresh Rawal reveals getting a role in 'Andaaz Apna Apna' was a big deal for him: 'I used to do some really terrible villain roles…'

Before Paresh Rawal became known for his hilarious roles in Priyadarshan’s comedy films, he had already made a strong name for himself in Bollywood. He had worked with top comedy directors like David Dhawan and Rajkumar Santoshi and appeared in hit films such as 'Haseena Maan Jayegi', 'Hero No. 1', 'Bade Miyan Chote Miyan', and the cult classic ' Andaaz Apna Apna '. His perfect comic timing and memorable performances had already won the hearts of audiences across the country.

‘Andaaz Apna Apna’ returns to theatres
As 'Andaaz Apna Apna' gets ready for a theatrical re-release, Paresh Rawal shared some interesting behind-the-scenes stories in an interview with Radio Nasha. Paresh spoke about the unforgettable kidnapping scene from the film. He revealed that the entire scene was shot in a single take. He explained that directors like Rajkumar Santoshi and David Dhawan prefer not to use too many cuts in comic scenes. “They shoot in single takes, which makes it feel like live theatre,” he said. The actor compared this style to performing on stage. He said it helps bring out natural energy and better chemistry between the actors. He also shared that some of the dialogues in that scene were “crackling,” all thanks to the fun and spontaneous interaction between him, Salman Khan , and Aamir Khan .

When asked about why his character in 'Andaaz Apna Apna' is still so loved, Paresh Rawal gave full credit to the film’s writers and director Rajkumar Santoshi. He admitted that during that time, he mostly played negative roles. “Back then, I used to do some really terrible villain roles… so getting a role like this was a big deal,” he said. He shared that he’s forever grateful to Santoshi for trusting him with a comic character.

A shocking reveal
Surprisingly, Paresh Rawal also said he has never watched the full film! “I’ve never watched the full film… never got the chance,” he admitted.
With the film re-releasing on April 25, he said he will finally try to watch it. It’s the perfect time to relive the magic, both for fans and for him!
