Srinagar: Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have dismantled a module linked to the overground workers (OGWs) of the terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Bandipora district, resulting in the arrest of four individuals, according to police reports released on Thursday.
A police spokesperson stated, “We received reliable intelligence indicating that certain OGWs associated with LeT were plotting a criminal scheme under the guidance of their handlers, aiming to target police and security personnel, as well as non-local residents. In response, Bandipora Police initiated a manhunt and set up special checkpoints across various locations in the district.”
A coordinated checkpoint was established by Bandipora Police in collaboration with D-Coy 45 Bn CRPF and E-Coy of 13 RR at Kanipora Naidkhai Sumbal.
During the checkpoint operations, two suspects were apprehended: Mohammad Rafiq Khanday, son of Mohammad Afzal Khanday from Khanday Mohalla Watalpira, and Mukhtar Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Yousuf Dar from Bunpora Mohalla S.K Bala.
The search yielded illegal weapons, including two Chinese hand grenades, a 7.62 MM magazine, and 30 rounds of 7.62 MM ammunition.
A case has been registered under FIR No.88/2025 at Police Station Sumbal, and investigations are ongoing.
Additionally, Bandipora Police, along with F-Coy 3rd Bn CRPF and 13 RR Ajas camp, set up another checkpoint at Sadunara Ajas. Here, two more suspects, Rayees Ahmad Dar, son of Sona Ullah Dar from Saderkoot Bala, and Mohd Shafi Dar, son of Mohammad Sultan Dar from Banyari, were also detained.
Weapons were found in their possession as well.
A case under the relevant sections of UAPA has been filed at Police Station Sumbal, and further inquiries are underway.
During interrogation, the arrested individuals confessed to being part of the OGW network for the banned LeT, with plans to target police and security forces, as well as non-locals in the Ajas, Naidkhai Sumbal, and surrounding areas.
